Defining e-Learning

E-learning is the use of network technology, particularly the internet, to create, index, select, administer, track, and extend content to others so that they may gain knowledge, comprehension, or mastery of a topic or concept, anytime, anywhere. E-learning focuses on providing the individual with a personalized learning experience while maintaining an organization's standards for testing and accreditation. E-learning allows the learner to become proficient in the least amount of time possible while increasing retention of knowledge and skills.

True e-learning encompasses indexing of learning assets against a set of standards by which learning objects are easily retrieved and reused, content creation, content delivery in multiple formats, management of the learning experience, tracking and assessment of a user's assimilation of delivered content, and a networked community of learners, content developers and experts. In general, e-learning has the potential to provide faster learning at reduced costs, increased access to learning, and clear accountability for all participants in the learning process. In a time where companies, organizations, institutions, and universities are turning to technology to provide a cost-effective way to train and teach end-users, e-learning offers the most promising possibilities.

"Human skills are subject to obsolescence at a rate perhaps unprecedented in American History."

Alan Greenspan

"The next big killer application for the Internet is going to be education. Education over the Internet is going to be so big it is going to make e-mail look like a rounding error."

John Chambers Cisco Systems

Content

Whether an organization is interested in continuing education or developing courseware for the attainment of a degree or certification, high-quality compelling content is critical for success. As the e-learning industry matures, companies and institutions are realizing that access to content is just as important as technology or services.

Medantic Technology, LLC. can uniquely address healthcare content issues through its strategic relationships with some of the world's largest medical publishers. Unlike other e-learning companies that provide only content, Medantic Technology, LLC. has successfully built a complete integrated e-learning solution that allows content delivery in a fast, cost-effective manner necessary for a compelling learning experience online.

Technology

There is no question that the technology sector is the fastest growing industry in history. As institutions and organizations struggle to make sense of technology changes, the risk of choosing the wrong technology partner becomes evident only too late. Time, effort, and money can be easily exhausted with a technology partner who may not fully understand the needs of the client, especially in the healthcare industry.

Medantic Technology, LLC. strives to stay at the bleeding edge of the technological revolution and understands that the systems being built today will be subject to the standards of tomorrow. Members of our executive team have been invited to participate in dialogues about new protocols for digital asset management systems including the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) as established by the United States Department of Defense's Advanced Distributed Learning initiative.

Medantic Technology, LLC. is not only anticipating future changes in technology, but is helping to pioneer the standards by which healthcare information technology will exist for generations to come.

"We define e-learning companies as those that leverage various Internet and Web technologies to create, enable, deliver, and/or facilitate lifelong learning."

Robert Peterson, Piper Jaffray

"...online students had more peer contact with others in the class, enjoyed it more, spent more time on class work, understood the material better, and performed, on average, 20% better than students who were taught in the traditional classroom."

WR Hambrecht + Co

Instructional Design

Despite the evolutionary developments of technology and access to high-quality, compelling content, the authoring environment and instructional design by which material is presented over the internet remains critical for success. While core technologies may change or grow as new technologies emerge, the tools by which authors can create new e-learning modules must remain simple and intuitive.

The development of remote authoring tools that adhere to both technology standards and sound instructional design is not a simple task. Proper development of such tools can only be achieved by those who fundamentally understand instructional design at the individual user and organizational levels.

Medantic Technology, LLC. has managed to bring together leaders in instructional design in healthcare towards the development of a remote authoring environment that sets the standard for creation, deployment, and administration of e-learning courseware.

Medantic Technology, LLC.'s proprietary e-learning architecture allows individuals to quickly and effectively create materials that are instructionally sound and technically compliant. Experts no longer need to be technically savvy to take advantage of robust authoring environments. Instructors are finally empowered to do what they do best: convey information.
